For years, Houston schools were failing far too many students. Students were not receiving the education they deserved, and worse, there was no plan to turn things around. And things kept getting worse, especially for the district’s most vulnerable students – minority students, students growing up in poverty, students who don’t speak English at home, and students with learning differences.

That is no longer the case. Under current leadership, HISD is rapidly working to accelerate learning for all our students and their families. HISD’s recent academic gains show exactly what’s possible when the focus stays on student learning. Every family in every neighborhood, not just in Texas but nationwide, should have schools they know they can count on.
